Stakeholders submit wish list for region to Railway Minister
Stakeholders of the region met Railway Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda in the city on Sunday and submitted a list of demands for better rail infrastructure.
This includes completion of the Mysore-Madikeri railway line, sanctioning the Mysore-Neelambur via Sultan Bathery line and Chamarajanagar-Mettupalayam railway line, and extension of Udayan Express and Karnataka Express services to Mysore.
Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) representative Sudhakar Shetty; Mysore Industries Association General Secretary Suresh Kumar Jain; and B.S. Chandrashekar, vice-president of Nanjangud Industries Association; met the Union Minister and said the above projects would give a boost to trade and commerce in the region.
The memorandum submitted by MCCI said the Mysore-Madikeri line will not only help coffee growers in the region but will give a fillip to tourism.
Similarly, the Mysore-Neelambur railway line via Sultan Bathery will link Karnataka with Kerala and the enhanced connectivity will bring in additional revenue from tourism and trade.
One of their key demands was the extension of Udayan Express to Mysore so that the city could have daily express train connectivity to Mumbai.
Track doubling
They also sought an early completion of the track doubling work between Mysore and Bangalore to reduce the commuting time.
The Nanjangud Industries Association sought the introduction of diesel multiple units on the Mysore-Nanjangud-Chamarajanagar section due to increase in passenger traffic, early construction of a subway at the Mysore station, and increasing the length of platform numbers 2 and 3 and connecting platform 5 and 6 with the mainline.
