INDORE-MHOW LINE TRIAL RUN CONDUCTED -INDIAN RAILWAY

Railway conducts trial on Indore-Mhow line

INDORE: The railways on Saturday conducted a trial run on newly converted 22-km-long rail line between Indore and Dr. Ambedkar Nagar railway station. An electric locomotive left from Indore railway station at around 10.30 am and reached Ambedkar Nagar station at around 10.50 am.
Officials with Ratlam division of the Western railways said that the trial was successful and the track would be made open for train operations after safety inspection. "Commissioner of railway safety is scheduled to inspection the section and after clearance from him the track would be made open for electric trains," they said.
The railways recently completed electrification work on the section and authorities focus is on developing 14-coach platforms at Ambedkar Nagar station into 24-coach-long platforms.
An official said, "Acquiring of land for extension of the platforms is in progress. The pressure of train traffic at Indore railway station is going to be reduced to a great extent in coming days."
The railways have already approached Army in Mhow to acquire some of their land for extension of platforms at Ambedkar Nagar station. "A proposal has already been sent to zonal office for land acquisition. Like bartering system, we are planning to give up some of our land to the Army and in return we would acquire some of their land near the station," said a senior official of Ratlam division.
Railways officials claimed that it will reduce waiting list status for long distance trains originating from Indore. "Once the extension work will get completed, we will be able to increase number of coaches of outstation trains. It would bring down the waiting list status at Indore railway station," said an official.

Mhow-Kalakund track on Ratlam Division to get Heritage Status

Mhow: The Mhow- Kalakund rail line will be a heritage line, solely for the purpose of tourism after railway authorities officially announced that the gauge conversion work of Mhow-Khandwa rail line will start shortly.

The track between Mhow and Kalakund passes through picturesque mountains, valleys, tunnels, ravines and crosses Choral and Malendi rivers at many points which makes the journey very beautiful, especially between July and March. The rail route was built by the British about 150 years back and passes through hills and valleys of Vindhyachal mountain ranges. It has everything that is needed to become a favorite destination. Besides, its proximity to Indore (32 kilometers from Indore railway station) makes it all the more accessible.

About four years back, the then MD of Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation had visited the area and explored the possibilities of the area as a tourist destination. He had also discussed with railway officials about a special train to be run between Mhow and Choral railway stations. Presently, length of railway track between Mhow and Balwara is 38 km and after the new alignment of track, the distance will become 53 km.

The last gauge conversion work of the railways from meter gauge to broad gauge in Malwa- Nimar region will start shortly and with it the last meter gauge line between Mhow and Khandwa will be converted to broad gauge line. The work will shortly start from Khandwa side.

The most important aspect of this project is that the track has been re-aligned in such a way that it will pass through the plains via Simrole.
