Metro Fares and Auto fares  for single person are comparable ?

Nagpur: While the fare of metro railway will be decided by a high level committee, officials of Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRCL) have indicated they would be comparable to autorickshaw fare per person.

Addressing a public interaction programme at Dhantoli, Shirish Apte, public relations officer (PRO), gave an example, "If a three-seater autorickshaw takes Rs 90 for going to railway station then per person the fare comes to Rs 30. The metro railway fare will be comparable to this over the same stretch. The exact fare will be decided by a committee headed by a retired high court judge as per the Metro Railway Act."

The official further said that monthly, three-monthly passes would be issued as the agency wanted long term business from commuters. The commuters will be able to pay the fare of feeder service and bicycles (wherever available) through the metro rail smart card. "Only 30% of our reveneue will come from tickets. The rest will be from other sources and hence the fare will be affordable," he added.

NMRCL has been organizing such programmes at localities situated near metro rail stations. This was the ninth in the series and was organized with the cooperation of corporators Sandip Joshi and Safalta Ambatkar. NMRCL, which was represented by Apte and Kapil Chandrayan, faced a barrage of questions from Dhantoli residents on a host of issues. Many were irrelevant as some pertained to agencies that have no relation with NMRCL.

Residents of one of the buildings of Congress Nagar Square complained that their building was being demolished to save the New English High School and demanded that the Congress Nagar station should be opposite Ajni railway station. NMRCL asked them to give a submission in writing.

Corporator Joshi wondered why the distance between Congress Nagar and Rahate Colony stations was hardly 1.5 km. Apte said that going by the experience of metro railways elsewhere the distance should be between 950 to 1200 metres to reduce the use of two-wheelers. On a doctor's query about noise pollution, the NMRCL officials said the metro rail engine's noise would be far lower than that of a normal railway engine because it would be far less powerful. "As for vibrations, it will be less where the track is straight. The at grade stretch also it will have low vibrations," Apte said.

Some citizens wondered why Civil Lines, which had so many government offices, did not have metro rail connectivity. The officials said that the locality would be covered by feeder service.

Germany clears Rs.3,500 Crore loan for Nagpur Metro Rail
Nagpur (NGP): The Nagpur metro rail has achieved a major landmark with German government-owned development bank KfW sanctioning a 500 million Euro (over Rs.3,500 crore) loan. Union finance minister Arun Jaitley has cleared it and Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRCL) is expected to get a letter from his ministry in this regard, next week.
NMRCL requires another 130 million Euro (about Rs.900 crore) loan. Agence Francais de Developpement (AFD), a French government agency, has agreed to provide this amount. The deal for this loan is likely to be finalized this month.
Brijesh Dixit, managing director of NMRCL, told that the rate of interest of the German loan would be between 1.6% and 1.7%. “The exact rate of interest will be determined by the average of European Interbank Offered Rate (Euribor) in last six months from the date of signing the loan agreement. The rate is Euribor plus a fixed component of 0.3%,” he said.
The rate of interest provided by AFD will be determined by a similar formula. Only the fixed component may be slightly different. The rate of interest may seem to be very low but depreciation of the rupee effectively increases it sharply. If the depreciation in last ten years is taken then it will go up to 8%.
The cost of the project, if it is completed by 2018, is Rs.8,680 crore. The loan component is 50%, which comes to Rs.4,340 crore. The remaining amount is to be provided by central government, state government, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT).
Dixit further said that work was progressing on the construction front fast. “NMRCL has got the possession of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) land and has started survey on it. The police department had told NMRCL that shooting practice was scheduled from September 5 to 12. We are therefore not doing survey of the shooting range. It will be from after September 13. The practice does not otherwise interfere with out work as it will be held from 7 am to 12 noon,” he said.
NMRCL has set up a prefabrication unit in Mihan on the land meant for the car depot. The boundary wall of the car depot and the 5 km at grade section will be prefabricated here and then fitted between the columns being erected along the corridor. The agency is looking for a 5 hectare land close to the city for prefabricating the elevated track.

Nagpur’s Buldi Metro Station building will be 25 Story high

Nagpur (NGP): The Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRCL) not only aims to provide the city a modern mass transport system but also construct the tallest building in the city. It aims to construct a 20-storeyed building atop the Sitabuldi metro station at Munje Square. The effective height of the tower will be around 25 storeys. At present, the tallest buildings in the city are the five residential towers in Anandam City, which are G+19 structures.

NMRCL managing director Brijesh Dixit told that the two corridors of metro rail will cross at Munje Square and hence, will have a huge passenger load and excellent connectivity to other parts of the city. “We want to take advantage of the location and construct the building on this spot. The building will have a viewers’ gallery on the terrace. The building itself will house shops, offices, hotels, restaurants, etc. It will become a good revenue source for us,” he elaborated.

“The two corridors will cross at about 5 metres above the Maharashtra Bank building. The metro trains coming out of the building will be wonderful sight. We will hold a global competition of architects to design the landmark building,” the MD said.

Munje Square station is not the only one that NMRCL plans to make a landmark one. “The Ambazari station will have a walkway at the height of 15 metres that will provide wonderful view of the lake and its surroundings. It will have a glass wall for visitors. Here, too, we will construct a commercial centre,” the MD told.

NMRCL is aware of the acute shortage of parking space in the city and its consequence on availability of the same for metro stations. It is thinking of innovative solutions to overcome this problem. “We are thinking of creating underground parking areas under some of the city gardens,” Dixit said.

Dixit further said that he had recently met with divisional commissioner Anup Kumar and district collector Sachin Kurve to discuss the issues related with transfer of revenue land to Nagpur Metro. Sanjay Darade, commandant of SRPF Nagpur, was also present in the meeting. “Very good progress was made in the meeting towards land requirement of NMRCL for car depot at Hingna,” he added.

“Another meeting was convened at Metro House with NMC Commissioner Shravan Hardikar and other officials from NMC. The issues related with transfer of land owned by NMC were discussed. Shifting of utilities like street lights, electric supply lines, water pipelines, sever, etc coming in the metro alignment was discussed in detail. The provision of parking near proposed station areas and feeder bus services were also deliberated in the meeting,” Dixit further said.
