MOSQUITO TERMINATOR TRAIN RUNS IN
DELHI AREA FROM 18.09.2015

In keeping with the
annual programme, Northern Railway and Municipal Corporation of Delhi
MCD)jointly flagged off the ‘Mosquito Terminator’ Special Train to check
mosquito breeding in the water bodies along the railway track in Delhi area.
This Special train shall
be flagged off from platform No.1 of New Delhi station by Sh.Arun Arora,
Divisional Railway Manager and Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel,Commissioner, M.C.D. on
18.09.2015.
The Special train is
envisaged to mitigate the health hazards of breeding of mosquitoes in the
burrow pits alongside construction sites of rail tracks and as a measure to
cater to public health more importantly for the health safety of
officials/ people residing at places adjoining railway tracks.
A truck mounted power
sprayer provided by M.C.D. is loaded as a Special kind of wagon ‘DBKM’ which
has a low flat surface to mount any truck or vehicle. This Special train
will spray insecticides to sanitize the water bodies’ upto a distance of 50-60
meters along the tracks of Delhi Ring Railway via Hazrat Nizamuddin, Lajpat
Nagar, Sewa Nagar, Lodhi Colony, Delhi Safdarjung, Patel Nagar, Delhi
Kishanganj, Dayabasti and culminate at New Delhi on the first day, i.e. on
18.09.2015 and will cover other areas of NCR region in subsequent days upto
10.10.15 as shown below. There will be two rounds of spraying each week to
cover the peak mosquito breeding season.
Northern Railway is
committed to this public health initiative of running ‘Mosquito Terminator
train’ Special train, which necessitates meeting challenges of halting
important Express and Superfast trains on this high rail traffic areas besides
ensuring that the Over Dimensional Load of this special train does not infringe
safety in any manner.
