Telangana IT Secretary hints at Light Rail Transit System for Hyderabad’s new ITIR Region
Hyderabad: After metro rail, the Telangana government is now mulling a Light Rail Transit System (LRTS) for the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR), to mainly connect the metro rail stations in Miyapur and Shilparamam to the IT hubs.
The Telangana government has decided to develop the ITIR regions of Shamshabad and Uppal area on par with Cyberabad. The development plans, which include enhancing infrastructure facility, providing better transportation and making the area safe and secure, are expected to be ready by end of November this year.
A committee that was constituted comprising principal secretary of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD), metropolitan commissioner of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and secretary of Information Technology and Communications (IT&C) department, has reportedly given its nod to this rail system in the ITIR region. The LRTS is a medium capacity mode of mass rapid transport that straddles between the heavy capacity metro rail and the low capacity bus services. Light rails usually comprise two to three cars and have a carrying capacity of 25,000 to 30,000 passengers per hour per direction, whereas metro rail caters to 65,000 to 70,000 passengers per hour per direction.
