Overwhelming Response in terms of relief aid to the flood affected state, 
on the call of Rail Ministry.
Over 630 Tonnes of relief material transported free of cost to Kerala
South Central Railway, which stands first o­n Indian Railways in terms of overall performance efficiency and is a front runner in the aspects of rail operations, passenger facilities etc., has made its mark in yet another sphere. In a overwhelming response to the flood furry caused in Kerala,SCR’s workforce have reached out to the affected people of the State by means of voluntarily rendering sizeable financial assistance, while the Zone has stayed in the forefront to transport huge quantity of relief aid material o­n trains to the State.
Acting o­n the directives of Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Railways to provide all assistance to enable Kerala come out of the havoc caused by the unprecedented floods, SCR initiated Mission “Join Hands for Kerala”, conceptualized by Shri Vinod Kumar Yadav, General Manager, SCR. The two pronged plan of action covered the entire network o­n the Zone, with the Divisional Railway Managers of all the six divisions– Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Guntakal and Nanded Divisions being assigned the responsibility to continuously monitor the relief measures.
The workforce of the Zone showed the way in terms of rendering monitory assistance to mitigate the plight of millions of Keralites who faced unprecedented devastation caused due to floods. In a exemplary deed, Officers and Staff of SCR joined hands to voluntarily contribute an amount of Rs.7.5 Crore from their wages to the Prime Ministers National Relief Fund – Kerala State. A copy of the communiqué o­n the contribution from SCR addressed to the Rail Ministry was handed over by Smt. Padmini Radhakrishnan, Principal Financial Advisor and Shri N.V.Ramana Reddy, Principal Chief Personnel Officer to Shri Vinod Kumar Yadav, General Manager, SCR today i.e., 11th September, 2018 at SCR’s Headquarters, Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad.
Shri John Thomas, Additional General Manager, SCR, who was specially tasked to head and co-ordinate the entire relief activity o­n the Zone, continuously interacted with all the officials involved so as to smoothly execute the relief plan each day. SCR has transported a record 630 Tonnes of relief aid material free of cost o­n rail from various locations o­n the since 15th August, 2018 to destinations catering to the flood affected Districts of Kerala. Here too, SCR’s personnel played a significant role in collecting over 185 Tonnes of relief material, which formed part of the entire consignment sent. The relief material comprised of various basic food items, baby foods, back to home kits besides medicines, disinfectants, cleaning liquids etc., to serve the immediate and the post impact needs of the people.
Shri M. Umashankar Kumar, Chief Public Relations Officer, SCR handled the task to liaison with the District and State administration of Kerala, which enabled the Zone to assess specific requirements of relief material at various places in Kerala and transport the same accordingly.
