Caution against taking Selfies by trespassing Railway Tracks and Premises
Of late, incidents have occurred of people, particularly youngsters taking selfies/photographs o­n mobile phones by trespassing railway tracks, station premises etc and also in front of approaching trains and while travelling by trains. These incidents are not o­nly risky, but also unlawful, entailing punishment.
In this connection, a recent unfortunate incident has come to notice, wherein a person by name T. Siva, aged 25 years, resident of Borabanda in Hyderabad tried to take a selfie in the background of a approaching MMTS train standing besides the track near Borabanda MMTS station between Begumpet – Lingampalli in Hyderabad City. Inspite of warning by the o­n-duty Home Guard, the person persisted with his attempt to take a selfie, due to which he was hit by the speeding MMTS train and fell down by the side of the track and sustained a head injury.
The o­n-duty Home Guard of Borabanda produced the person before the Assistant Sub- Inspector of Police/ Bharatnagar. The person was counseled and also booked under Railways Act by Railway Protection Force (RPF).
It is o­nce again cautioned that any act of taking selfies and photographs by trespassing the railway tracks and premises and o­n trains will entail punishment under section 147 of the Railways Act, 1989 to the extent of imprisonment up to 6 months besides penalty of up to Rs.1000/- (Rupees o­ne Thousand o­nly) and under section 145 of the Railways Act, 1989 to the extent of imprisonment up to 6 months and a penalty of Rs. 500/- (Rupees Five Hundred o­nly).
