EASTERN RAILWAY ASANSOL DIVISION SUCCESSFULLY ELIMINATES ALL UNMANNED LEVEL CROSSING GATES

Kolkata, 9 May, 2016.
To achieve Railway Board’s target of elimination of all the unmanned level crossing gates over Indian Railways for safety of rail users, Eastern Railway takes the challenge and performs the job in a planned and phased manner in the four divisions of its jurisdiction.

Over Eastern Railway, Asansol division is the first to eliminate unmanned level crossing gates completely by providing Limited Height Subway replacing the last unmanned level crossing gate no. 16 between Kunuri & Sainthia o­n Asansol- Sainthia section of its jurisdiction o­n 8 May, 2016. The Limited Height Subway has been built by cut- and-cover method with the help of two nos. of rail cranes within stipulated block time.

Asansol division started the work for elimination of unmanned level crossing gates in a planned way by providing Limited Height Subway or merger with nearby level crossing gates or diversion of road or outright closure with the consent of State Govt. The no. of unmanned level crossing gates in Asansol division was 78 in 2011-12, 72 in 2012-13, 32 in 2013-14, 05 in 2014-15 and 01 in 2015-16 (level crossing gate no. 16 between Kunuri & Sainthia) and now total elimination of unmanned level crossing gates has been achieved.
