MEASURES BY SOUTHERN RAILWAY TO ADDRESS THE CONCERNS OF CUSTOMERS BOOKING PARCELS BY TRAINS

1) A newspaper report appeared o­n 07.03.2016 highlighting the transport of parcels, household goods and motorcycles o­n trains has become a hassle as unauthorized agents fleece passengers.It was also reported that agents jack up the railways’ actual charges often o­n the pretext of packing, loading, unloading etc. and the customers are forced to pay extra charges.
2) In this regard following immediate initiatives are taken by Southern Railway
a)An enquiry has been ordered into the reported incident.
b) Further, to curb the menace faced by customers while booking and taking
Delivery of parcels, Southern Railway has taken some significant initiatives.
c) Surprise checks will be conducted frequently by senior railway officials to
prevent such malpractices.
3) Accordingly, when a customer faces any problem while booking / taking delivery of parcels at railway stations or if any railway official / unauthorized agent demands money in violation of railway procedures, the customer is requested to contact the Officer o­n Special Duty (mobile no. – 90031 60969) to the Chief Commercial Manager of Southern Railway.In divisions, the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of the respective division should be contacted and informed of the problem.(Sr. DCM / Chennai – 044-2535 4457; Sr. DCM / Tiruchchirappalli – 0431-2460 447; Sr. DCM / Madurai – 0452-230 8200; Sr. DCM / Salem – 0427-2330 297; Sr. DCM / Palakkad – 0491-2555 443; Sr. DCM / Thiruvananthapuram – 0484-2325639)
4)The complainant should give his/her name, mobile no. and also should indicate the name of the railway staff indulging in malpractice and the nature of the problem / issue.Necessary action will be taken to solve the problem.
