NAMMA METRO NEWS: TAXIS AND TWO WHEELER FOR HIRE
BENGALURU: To provide last-mile connectivity at Metro stations for its commuters, Namma Metro has come up with a novel concept of providing bike taxis at nine of its stations.
E-tenders were called on Friday for housing motorised and non-motorised two-wheelers at Baiyappanahalli, Indiranagar, Trinity, Mantri Square, Rajajinagar, Sandal Soap Factory, Peenya, Mysore Road and Vijayanagar stations (Reach-I and Reach 3).
“Since people who use the Metro services may generally have to reach short distances from the stations, a two-wheeler hiring facility at the station will help commuters,” the tender states.
Bidders have been encouraged to run battery-operated vehicles. The area provided for parking will be 600 sqft at each of the stations. The contractor can decide upon having one or more parking lot and can decide the rent.
When asked if the bikes would have a driver or would be self-driven, U A Vasant Rao, General Manager (Finance), Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited, said, “It is up to the licensee to plan their business strategy. BMRCL will give them place to run their business against a licence fee.” The facility will be available on all days from 5 am to 11 pm. The deposit amount is Rs 5,000. The tender will be finalised on February 22.
