Alert Railway Staff act to extinguish smoke/flame in a Coach of New Delhi - Chennai TamilNadu Express
The alertness exhibited by the Railway Staff enabled extinguish smoke/flame in the General Second Class Compartment of Train No. 12622 New Delhi-Chennai Central Tamil Nadu Express between Kesamudram and Tadlapusapalli stations on Warangal-Dornakal section of Secunderabad Division, South Central Railway yesterday night i.e., 21st October, 2015.
The incident occurred when smoke was noticed coming from the side of a ceiling fan of a general second class compartment of the train while it was on the run yesterday night i.e. 21st October, 2015 and the train was stopped between Kesamudram – Tadlapusapalli stations immediately (at around 22.43 hrs). Passengers were safely evacuated from the coach and shifted to the adjacent coaches.
The Guard of the train, Shri Srinivas tried to extinguish the fire. Upon noticing flames emanating, the train was moved ahead upto Tadlapusapalli and the railway staff took up prompt action to extinguish the smoke/flame by using the fire extinguishing equipment including sand and fire extinguishers and succeeded in bringing the smoke/flame under control. Later, the train was cautiously moved ahead upto Mahabubabad, where the impacted coach was detached and the train resumed its journey further.
Shri S.P.Sahu, Chief Safety Officer and Shri Ashesh Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad Division, SCR rushed to Mahabubabad Railway Station to inspect the detained coach. Investigations are on to arrive at the possible cause for the smoke / flame. The help of forensic experts has also been sought for the purpose.
