RAIL USERS CO-OPERATE WITH RAILWAYS IN THE ENDEAVOUR IN SMOOTH RUNNING OF SERVICES
RAILWAY EXPRESSES CONFIDENCE THAT GOOD-WILL FROM RESIDENTS WOULD CONTINUE IN FUTURE SITUATIONS TOO AND THAT RAILWAY WOULD CONTINUE TO OCCUPY PRIDE OF PLACE AMONGST PUBLIC AND RAIL USERS
Public convenience and request from Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir were considered by Northern Railway for running the train Services on 26th & 27th September 2015, which was planned for temporary suspension as per deliberations with the Govt. of Kashmir. 13 pairs of DEMU trains are presently operating in the Kashmir Valley region and the rail line has evolved into a choice mode of travel offeringreliable connectivity as all-weather mode of public transport. These DEMU services run all 365 days in a year even when the roads are blocked due to heavy snow fall and land-slides barring a few occasions in the year when the DEMU services remained inoperative due to floods or boulders falling on track.
The DEMU trains in the Kashmir Valley region are Special DEMU trains, with state-of-the-art design and heating arrangement catering to the climatic factors, providing aesthetic splendor of the valley through wider windows for panoramic view and ergonomically designed cushioned chair etc. for pleasant and comfortable journey. The Rail project in the region is a project of national importance. The terrain passes through young Himalayas, which are full of geological surprises and numerous problems. Northern Railway has achieved several significant benchmarks and firsts in construction engineering and has adopted sophisticated technology to surmount the challenges.
However, in the light of the recent incidences of arson and vandalism to sophisticated railway installations and obstruction to train crew in operating trains in the Valley by anti-social elements, Northern Railway had appealed to the travelling public using train services in Banihal- Baramula region to discourage, prevent and counsel such persons indulging in mindless vandalism. Convinced with this rationale, the general public co-operated with the Railways in ensuring safe and incident-free operations.
Northern Railway expresses confidence that active public co-operation would go hand-in-hand in ensuring the Railways’ endeavour to continue its agenda to provide greater connectivity and thereby progress in the region.
Northern Railway expresses its thanks to the local passengers for their co-operations.
