ITO-Mandi House section of Delhi Metro to be opened today
ITO-Mandi House section of Delhi Metro which is estimated to benefit 22,000 passengers daily, will be thrown open on Monday after a delay of several months caused by operational procedures and rules.
Urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu will flag off the new section in the presence of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The number of passengers expected to benefit from services on the section is likely to rise to 31,000 by 2021, enhancing DMRC's annual revenue by Rs 8 crore.
Inspection of the newly constructed section was done by the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety on June 2.
The construction of the single-line section was completed in January but operations could not be started as the safety inspection could not be carried out according to provisions of the Metro Railway General Rules of 2013.
The urban development ministry amended and notified changes to the Metro Railway General Rules to allow operations on single-line sections, which was a major stumbling block in operationalising the line.
