RPF Counsels Transgenders Against Causing Nuisance to Passengers

Railway Protection Force (RPF), Secunderabad Division conducted a special action plan to control the crime by transgenders in trains. During the period from January to April 2015, 447 transgenders were apprehended and prosecuted over the Division for creating nuisance in railway premises. An amount of Rs. 1,00,300/- has been realized as penalty from 289 transgenders and remaining 158 cases are pending in various courts.

In view of regular complaints being received from passengers o­n nuisance created by transgenders in trains, RPF personnel undertook a special action plan and conducted a counselling session with transgenders at Secunderabad Railway station.

Sri H. Srinivasa Rao, Asst. Security Commissioner/RPF/ Secunderabad Division along with Inspector/Secunderabad and staff attended and counselled the transgenders. They were explained about the inconvenience being caused to passengers with their behaviour. They emphasized that harsh punishments are being imposed by the courts and legal provisions in which they can be arrested. They were advised to desist from such activities in trains. Notable achievement was that during the session, three private contractors came forward and offered them job opportunities for their livelihood. The transgenders were advised to enrol their names for the above jobs with Inspector/RPF. The transgenders who attended the counselling session promised that they will not indulge in such activities in future and also give information to authorities if any one of them violates the promise.
