SEALDAH  STATION TO BE MORE BEAUTIFIED

GM  HAD  A SURPRISE VISIT IN THE NIGHT AT SEALDAH

Kolkata, August 2, 2014:

                Eastern Railway  General Manager Shri R.K. Gupta had a surprise visit to Sealdah station at 22:00 hrs. o­n yesterday night  (1.8.2014). He had inspected the entire Railway premises starting from the entrance area of Sealdah station  for about  2 ½ hours.

Shri Gupta had reviewed the Metro Railway’s o­n going project in front of the Sealdah station. He advised the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) and Divisional officials again to co-ordinate for early completion of the work to reduce inconvenience to the passengers. He stressed o­n time bound stage to stage completion of the o­ngoing work.

He advised to co-ordinate with the State officials for co-operation for removal of unauthorized vendors particularly fruit vendors to create more space for comfortable and safe passage of the passengers.

The taxi stand and the pedestrian area should be identified and cleared by the o­n duty security personnel. Passengers must be guided properly with the state of the art signage board indicating the route to the station.

At the entrance the passengers need to be restricted to the unpaid area o­nly. There should be an indication board ‘not to enter without authority’ and persons who want to enter should have either valid platform ticket or journey ticket.

A lot of efforts have been made in recent past by the Division to make platforms and Sealdah station premises clean. However more is still required for further improvement.  GM  urged upon the co-operation of the passengers for maintaining platforms and train compartments clean.

He advised DRM/Sealdah and other Divisional Officials to make all out effort for speedy disposal of court cases concerning to unauthorized vendors all over Sealdah division.

He expressed concern to identify more passenger amenities and work for better safety & security of the passengers.

He also emphasized o­n punctuality of Mail/Express and local trains in Sealdah division. All failures, delay in train running must be critically analyzed and monitored at proper level for remedial measures.


He inspected few local trains and stabled rakes of suburban trains and directed for pest control measures and further improving cleanliness in train compartments.

He emphasized maintaining aesthetics in and around station premises and  to rationalize size and location of the hoardings.

He directed the DRM and Divisional Officers to follow inspection notes o­n Howrah Division and act as per his instructions given o­n various subjects.
