SCR plan for Integrated Security System for 3 Railway Terminals
Secunderabad (SC): To enhance passenger security, the South Central Railway is setting up an integrated security system at Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Tirupati — three high passenger density stations — at a cost of Rs.6.2 crore.
The system consists of specialized security features like CCTV surveillance, access control, baggage scanning, under-vehicle scanning and bomb detection & disposal system.
Speaking after unfurling the national flag at Railway Sports Complex grounds here on Friday, SCR general manager PK Srivastsava said SCR deployed about 280 RPF personnel for escorting 96 trains in identified vulnerable sections in addition to strengthening their presence at stations and vital installations.
In view of the safety risks associated with the unmanned level crossings, SCR has taken steps to deploy manpower, utilizing internal and external resources, to counsel road users on safety. In this connection, the SCR has drawn up an action plan to eliminate all unmanned LCs by 2016-17. About 440 unmanned level crossings were eliminated during the last four years and 31 during April-July this year. The process of eliminating the remaining has been speeded up.
To meet the future traffic potential, it is enhancing the capacity on congested trunk routes and various de-bottle necking works are being given major thrust. Works on projects like new lines, doubling, electrification, road over/under bridges and traffic facility works etc. are being monitored closely for their expeditious completion.
