Wall collapse disrupts train services on south-western route

Vasco: Train services on the south-western route were disrupted as mud covered the tracks at New Vaddem in Vasco after a retaining wall came down due to heavy rains.

Several trains ran behind schedule and two local trains were cancelled causing much inconvenience and hardships to commuters. The track was cleared after a six-hour operation.

Sources said that due to heavy rains, the railway retaining wall collapsed at around 2pm washing down mud and rubble onto the tracks. The Goa Express train which leaves at 3.10pm for Nizamuddin, had to delay its departure. It left at 8.45pm. Howrah Express, which was to reach Vasco, had to stop at Margao station and the south-western railway authorities made arrangements to drop the passengers to Vasco. After clearing the track, the train reached Vasco at 9.25pm. The departure, which was normally at 7.30pm, was delayed by a few hours.
