Train diverted to New Delhi, officials suspended

In a major operational lapse, a special train that operates between Patna and Anand Vihar railway station in Delhi diverted from its route on Sunday and reached New Delhi station instead.

Taking a serious view of the incident, railway authorities suspended the train driver and station masters of Shahibabad and Ghaziabad railway station. While the officials asserted that the incident did not amount to any compromise with safety, a probe has been ordered to identify the root cause of the lapse.

“The train was diverted on a different route from Ghaziabad. Though it was a case of wrong diversion, it was not a safety issue. The train was brought back to Anand Vihar. On duty station masters at Shahibabad and Ghaziabad stations and the driver have been suspended pending inquiry,” said Northern Railway spokesperson Neeraj Sharma.
