Sadananda: reducing travel time between Mysore-Chennai is the need of the hour

Bangalore-Mysore track doubling work project will be completed by March next: Sadananda

Reducing travelling time between Mysore, Bangalore and Chennai is the need of the hour. High-speed trains will be run between Mysore and Chennai via Bangalore, and infrastructure would be upgraded between these cities to reduce travel time, Railway Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda has said.

Mr. Gowda was speaking to presspersons at the Mandya Railway Station here on Sunday. He expressed confidence that the ongoing track doubling work between Mysore and Bangalore would be completed by March 2015.

He admitted that the project was delayed owing to various reasons. He added that assistance would be provided for the completion of the project.

Operating trains on both the tracks was necessary and the Railways was working towards this. It would significantly reduce the travel time between Mysore and Bangalore, he added.

Accompanied by C.S. Puttaraju, Mandya MP, besides Railway officials, Mr. Gowda inspected the infrastructure at the Mandya Railway Station. He got angry when he saw poorly maintained toilets and dry water taps at the platform and in railway coaches.

“I will not tolerate if you do not keep the railway station clean. This kind of negligence should not be repeated,” he warned officials.

The Minister discussed the progress of the track-doubling project with the Railway officials. He instructed them to improve basic amenities at railway stations in the district.

Mandya Assistant Commissioner Shantha L. Hulmani was among those present.

The Railway Minister also inspected Maddur, Pandavapura and Srirangapatna railway stations on Sunday.

Demands

Meanwhile, the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) leaders urged Mr. Gowda to release compensation to those who handed over their agricultural land for the track-doubling project. When Mr. Gowda visited Pandavapura, KRRS leader and Melkote MLA K.S. Puttannaiah requested him to ensure that cases filed against farmers, who participated in the Cauvery water disputes-related protests, were withdrawn. At least 120 cases had been filed against 80 farmers, he told Mr. Gowda, who said he would consider their demand.
