Railway signal work comes to a halt

Railway signal work comes to a halt

PUNE: The plan for continuous track circuiting and automatic block signalling system on the Pune-Lonavla rail section is likely to be delayed as the budgetary provision made this year falls short of the total requirement.

The signaling system will help improve train frequency like in Mumbai which has one suburban train every four to five minutes.

The provision in the railway budget for Central Railways for 2014-15 shows that a substantial portion of the work costing over Rs 23.65 crore has already been completed. This year, a provision of Rs 30 lakh has been made. However, the actual requirement is about Rs 1.17 crore.
