MMRDA’s land survey for Thane Metro shed over
THANE: The Thane metro has taken a step closer to reality. Officials of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) have finally concluded survey of the land that it requires for construction of the car shed.
"The metro project was not moving ahead as farmers were not allowing the MMRDA officials to conduct the survey of the land that needs to be acquired for construction of the car shed. Now, that survey is completed, the authority will soon forward the report to the state government for the necessary administrative approvals to take the project ahead," said a senior MMRDA official.
After chief minister Prithviraj Chavan proposed extension of the Metro services to Thane, farmers losing their land opposed the project. Thane guardian minister Ganesh Naik, too, opposed the move to acquire the fertile land for construction of the car shed. But, despite opposition, MMRDA officials convinced villagers for allowing them to do survey of the area.
