Chandigarh Municipal Corp demands Rs.1.27 Crore tax from railway station
Chandigarh (CDG): The municipal corporation (MC) has sent a notice to the railway station demanding Rs 1.27 crore as property tax, a move that comes after various government departments were asked about their enhanced constructed portions that incurred service charges.
Joint municipal commissioner Rajiv Gupta said, “We have sent the notice under Section 138 of Punjab Municipal Corporation Act (extended to Chandigarh) to the railway station and asked them to submit the tax. If the amount is not paid, the next course of action will be decided accordingly.”
A senior official of the MC said, “We have clearly mentioned in the notice that if they will not pay the money, strict action will be taken against them. This includes resumption of property. They have not paid the tax amount from the year 2004.”
