Namma Metro Notifies Properties for Acquisition

Namma Metro Notifies Properties for Acquisition

BENGALURU: There’s a small ray of hope for the IT corridor on the Metro front now. Namma Metro has issued notification for acquiring properties on one segment of the Whitefield-Baiyappanahalli stretch, thereby kickstarting the work on this segment of Metro Phase-II to commence.

A total of 64 properties have been identified for acquisition on the 4-km stretch between Baiyappanahalli and Mahadevapura on the 15.5-km stretch up to Whitefield. Baiyappanahalli, Jyotipura, K R Puram and Mahadevapura are the five Metro stations on this stretch.

Land Acquisitions Manager, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd, M S Channappa Goudar said, “The cost of acquiring land works out to Rs 150 crore. We are now calculating the cost of structures to be demolished that will also have to be compensated.”

A few of these properties have already been acquired by National Highways Authority of India, he added.

The compensation package will be submitted to the KIADB shortly and they will make the payments.

Among the properties to be acquired are a huge portion of Lowry Memorial High School running into 77,000 sqmt for the KR Puram Metro station. “The portion to be acquired covers the school’s hostel and dining hall and they have given their consent for the same,” he said. Open land belonging to Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd will also be acquired, he added.

Work related to acquisition of properties on the remaining 11.5 km from Baiyappanahalli to Whitefield is also under way, he added.

The Rs 26,000-crore Phase II (72.1-km) project involves extension of the entire Phase-I project. The East-West line of Mysuru Road (Nayandahalli) will extend to Kengeri, and Baiyappanahalli to Whitefield. The North-South line will extend from Puttenahalli to Anjanapura, and Hessaraghatta Cross to Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre.

The two new lines proposed will run from R V Road to Bommasandra (East-West) and from Gottigere to Nagawara (North-South). Phase-II will have its first train run by 2019 or 2020.

When will first train run on E-W corridor?

Confusion reigns over whether the East-West Corridor of Metro from Baiyappanahalli to Mysuru Road will be completed by March-end or mid-April. The underground stations at Cubbon Park, Vidhana Soudha, Sir M Visvesvaraya and Kempe Gowda stations are yet to begin operations. Official sources claim minor work in the underground section of Kempe Gowda Interchange Metro station is yet to be completed. However, Metro Managing Director Pradeep Singh Kharola insists that the first commercial run will take place by March.
