SAIL ready to take up Palakkad Rail Coach Factory project

Palakkad: The interest shown by the Union minister for steel Narendra Singh Tomar and the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) in the Palakkad railway coach factory project could give a new lease of life to the project that has been hanging fire for a couple of years now.

At a meeting in New Delhi on Friday, Tomar told chief minister Oommen Chandy that SAIL was ready to be a partner in a joint venture with the railways to take up the project. Chandy was accompanied by MPs M B Rajesh and M K Raghavan.

MP M B Rajesh, in a statement here on Friday, said Tomar told the chief minister that if the railways nominated SAIL as its joint venture partner, it would take up the project, provided the coaches manufactured at the Palakkad factory be bought by the railways.
