NORTHERN RAILWAY STEPS UP SWACCH BHARAT MISSION THROUGH SHRAMDAAN ON THE OCCASION OF GANDHI JAYANTI TODAY
SHRAMDAAN OBSERVED AT ALL 1000 MAJOR STATIONS on NORTHERN RAILWAY WITH SENIOR RAILWAY OFFICERS LEADING FROM THE FRONTROLLS OUT YEAR LONG ACTION PLAN LAUNCHED EARMARKING SPECIAL PERIOD FOR INTENSIVE CAMPAIGNS AND THEME BASED CAMPAIGN TO COVER DIFFERENT PHASES OF ACTIVITY

SPECIAL HELP BOOTHS TO BE SET UP FOR CLEANLINESS RELATED COMPLAINTS
With the Swacch Bharat Mission completing its one year today (2.10.2015), Northern Railway once again undertook Shramdaan by re-launching this responsibility through a slew of concomitant activities. Member Staff, Railway Board, Shri Pradeep Kumarand General Manager, Northern Railway Shri A.K.Puthia led the Shramdaan initiative from the front at a simple ceremony held at New Delhi Railway station today. Shramdaan was observed at all the 1008 stations of Northern Railway with senior officers participating at major stations. Shramdaan was observed by Railway employees along with their families at all the five divisions over the zone. The third round of Mosquito Terminator Special Train was also pressed into service on the occasion.
As part of its social service endeavour, thousands of volunteers of Sant Nirankari Mission(NGO) represented by Sant Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj and Pujya Mataji Smt. Savinder Kaur volunteered services to the cleanliness mission at New Delhi, Delhi Jn and Hazrat Nizamuddin station premises in the Swacch Bharat Mission. At Haridwar, a large group of students of Patanjali Peeth along with Baba Ram Dev. Sewaks of Sant Nirankari Mandal participated in the Shramdaan at Haridwar and at Dehradun. At Rishkesh students of Parmarth Ashram participated .Members of spiritual organizations of many denominations viz. Sehar qazi wa Imam Idgah, Guru Prabandan Committee, Assembly of Believers, Sant Nirankari and NGOs like Ehsaas child line partipicated at Lucknow. At Varanasi and Ambala, Sant Nirankari, Kashish Banarasi Foundation, All India Retired Railway Employees association also participated. At Beas, Radha Saomi Satsang and at Amritsar Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandak Committee, at Ek Omkar Singh Charitable Trust Seecheywal at Sultanpur Lodi.
Drawing up elaborate action plans during the course of the entire year, Indian Railways had earmarked special fortnights for Intensive Campaigns. Phase-Wise mission programmes are also slated for launching viz. Sardar Patel United Clean India Drive from 11th October to 31st October 2015 focusing on Railway stations and trains which unite the country. The period from 16th December to 31stDecemer would cover Railway colonies while 15th February 2016 to 18thFebruary 2016 would focus on Railway Hospitals and Health Units. The period from 28th February 2016 to 15th March 2016 would cover Cleanliness drives at Offices, Service Buildings and other work places including Workshops & Production Units.
Northern Railway also proposes to hold topical seminars and workshops to focus on the achievements in the area registered in the last year and lay broad road-map for the year ahead. The Railway also envisages to enlist support of Charitable Organisations/NGOs in the endeavour. Special Focus areas in this direction includes mainly on Cleanliness of Toilets, Solid Waste Management in major stations to identity improvements to be made and initiate action. Administering Swacch Bharat Pledge at station/deport level in a spread manner during the entire campaign period.
Other participative programmes include Painting Competitions & Quizzes in Railway Schools & Colleges, Training Institutes, Nukkad Ntaks, Registration into mygov.in, Help Booths for complaints pertaining to Cleanliness, Walkathons for awarenss, Display of Hoardings and Public Announcements, Creation of special web pages on Swachh Rail, Swacch Bharat Mission on Railways web-portal and posting report cards on achievements. Other associated programmes include anti-littering drives, special awareness campaigns on use of dustbins, bio-toilets, web-based SMS for dealing complaints on cleanliness. Other infrastructure development work in the direction includes completion of ongoing works on sanitation improvement and face-lifting of stations etc.
As part of its committed agenda to improve cleanliness and sanitation at major stations, Northern Railway has accorded high priority to ensure cleanliness at stations as a regular measure and through special initiatives from time to time. As per regular practice, a special drive is undertaken as a regular measure during the peak rush periods. Special JCB and dumpers, Track cleaning cars are also pressed into service during drive periods at major stations in Delhi Area and Lucknow.
On its part, the Railway has been undertaking measures to bring about a perceptible improvement in this direction through mechanization. Northern Railway is committed to continue the Cleanliness drive on sustained basis. The Railway appeals to all rail users to express their solidarity through greater public support and an active public co-operation to make the Railways a place of pride and rail journey a pleasant experience.
