DURING FOG PERIOD IN JANUARY & FEBRUARY, 2016

The winter season (December - February) in the northern states of our country is characterized by foggy weather due to drop in the mercury, affecting visibility. In order to tackle the issues arising from such conditions, Western Rly has taken some remedial measures in accordance to the directives from Railway Board. To manage the train operations smoothly, even in foggy season, Ministry of Railways has decided to reduce the frequency of some of the trains well in advance, which traverse through the fog affected areas. The changes in schedule will be effective from 8^th January to 29^th February 2016.

This far sighted decision will ensure suitable pre – planning of Rail travel as well as will mitigate the hardships of passengers during foggy weather. These measures will enable the passengers to plan their travel in such a manner so as to contain the problems & inconvenience arising due to cancellation or late running of trains o­n account of foggy weather conditions. Such a step will help the Railways to control the situation through suitable rake management if in case the trains will be delayed owing to poor visibility and last minute cancellation of trains can be avoided. Also, the concerned period being a slack season (non – peak period) due to various examinations in schools & colleges, the measures initiated will not have much adverse repercussion. This decision has been taken by the Railways considering the past experience of cancellation of trains during January & February months every year due to foggy weather.

The affected trains due to this decision include o­ne pair of trains to be cancelled and reduction of frequency in 21 pairs of trains which are as under:-
