No Private Companies in Railways: SRMU General Secretary, N. Kannaiah Demands
Chennai: The SRMU General Meeting was held on Thursday in Chennai under the leadership of its President, C.A. Raja Sridhar. In his speech, he said that allowing foreign investments in Indian railways would be detrimental to the welfare of the people and the employees.
He also added that the Government should give up its attempts to privatize the Railways.
The Central Government’s policies that attempt to bring in private parties into transportation sector would be against the interests and welfare of the workers. A debate will be conducted on this issue at the All India Railway Sammelan’s general meeting that is going to be held in Chennai on July 3.
Kannaiah also informed that if the Government doesn’t stop its attempts to privatise the railways or if it refuses to fulfil the promises made by the previous government, then the workers unions would retaliate with a nationwide indefinite general strike, like they did in 1974.
He said that the new Government at the Centre should fulfil the assurances given by the previous UPA government about including Dearness Allowance with the Basic Pay, and about granting interim relief by the 7th Pay Commission before it submits its final report.
He also demanded that, keeping in mind the skyrocketing prices, 100% Dearness Allowance must be included with the Basic Pay. Also, Rs. 2000 has to be given as interim relief.
