Railways plans to bring Private Players to build Rail Lines connecting CIL to Power Plants

New Delhi: In a move that can play a crucial role in Coal India achieving its production targets, news reports say that the government is planning a proposal to allow private firms to build and operate critical railway lines connecting Coal India mines to power, steel and cement projects.  A fee might be charged from the users of these rail links. The process of identifying the profitable lines and private firms which can build the railway lines are on, and is expected to be completed very soon. The report added that Senior officials of the coal ministry and Railway Board are expected to meet on Thursday to discuss progress of about 26 ongoing rail projects connected to mines of Coal India subsidiaries. Coal India is targeting production of 507 million tonne in the year to March 31, 2015.
