Wi-Fi Facilty in Trains 

Railways have provided Wi-Fi facility in Howrah-New Delhi, Howrah Rajdhani Express (three rakes) as a pilot project in April 2013 using satellite communication technology for continuous connectivity. A work of provision of Wi-Fi facility in 50 rakes of Rajdhani Shatabdi and Duranto category trains has been included in Works Programme 2013-14. 

Initially, in phase I, one Rajdhani Express train and Shatabdi Express (total five rakes) are planned for Wi-Fi facility. By the end of current Financial Year, agency to execute the work in 5 rakes will be finalized. 

The estimate approximate cost on provide Wi-Fi facility in 50 rakes of Rajdhani/Shatabdi and Duranto Category train is Rs. 98.6 crore. 

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Manoj Sinha in written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today.
