Tradition of Leveraging Technology for better services continues WESTERN RAILWAY TO CROSS 450 MARK FOR ATVMs ON ITS SUBURBAN SECTION

Western Railway has been pioneer in leveraging technology for betterment of passenger services, amenities and overall management. Maintaining this user friendly tradition, Western Railway has now planned to cross the mark of 450, by planning to install 157 more Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVM) over its suburban network.

In view of providing more convenience to the commuters and to reduce the queues at booking windows, Western Railway has already installed 300 ATVMs on Suburban section between Churchgate and Dahanu Road. Western Railway is also in process to install 157 more ATVMs, apart from existing 300 ATVMs over suburban network, after which the total number of ATVMs will be 457. Similarly, it is also decided to provide SMC counters at all locations with Booking counters at all suburban stations. Presently, about 100 SMC terminals exist on suburban section. This massive increase will facilitate the availability of ATVMs at every entry & exit at each suburban station.

It has been observed that even during peak hours, no queues formation has been noticed at ATVMs due to its capacity to issue tickets quickly and conveniently in a few seconds. ATVMs are also easy to use and time saving.

ATVMs are available at all stations and are used to purchase First & Second class single, return ticket & renew season tickets. About 45000 commuters buy tickets through ATVMs every day besides renewing their season tickets on WR. In all, about more than 5% of the daily commuters who are not season ticket holders, purchase tickets through ATVMs.
