Duplicate trains for popular trains to manage festival rush

Trains with maximum Passengers on Festive Rush - Duplicate Trains

The Indian Railways is considering to run duplicate trains for popular trains following poor performance of some zonal railways in managing festival rush.

“We are discussing to replace special trains by duplicate trains. The special trains have failed to attract passengers despite big publicity. People did not show much interest in these trains. Many of them ran without enough passengers,” said a high ministry official.

According to the official, duplicate trains would have the same name as are borne by the original trains and it would be easy for the passengers to identify them and their routes.

It would enable us to carry maximum passengers in them. The idea is to run them with full capacity.

The proposal came following the miserable failure of Railways in managing festival rush in north India. One passenger has lost his life while trying to board a Bihar bound train.

The Railways is considering scrapping premium rates for 50 per cent Tatkal tickets during rush periods on select routes. Introduction of premium rates for 50 per cent of Tatkal tickets had further reduced the availability of seats for common man in popular trains.
