Around One Lakh Railway Members Participate in ‘Maha Shramdaan’ in a Special Cleanliness Campaign Launched by GM/SCR as part of ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’; Railway Premises Cleaned up in a Big way

 As part of the  ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’, South Central Railway has launched a massive special cleanliness campaign today i.e. 2nd October, 2014 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi Divas.  Railway Officers  and Staff   across all levels and their family members,  enthusiastically participated in ‘Maha Shramdaan’ at Railway stations / in trains, track, workshops and Railway colonies through out the day. An estimated one lakh Railway members joined hands across the Zone in this first-ever such special  event.  

Public awareness campaigns seeking the co-operation of passengers in maintaining the Railway premises clean have also been taken up through various Media such as Print, Electronic and Digital Media and Public Announcement systems / CCTVs at stations. Pamphlets, posters, placards  and banners with cleanliness messages have  been distributed / displayed at stations and in trains. Also, songs and drama were played  at stations to educate the passengers on this issue.  Anti - littering drives have been intensified to impose fines up to Rs. 500 on those found to be littering/soiling the Railway premises.

Shri P.K.Srivastava, General Manager / South Central Railway kick started this campaign with the administering of ‘Swachhta Pledge’ (cleanliness oath) to all the staff   working in the Zonal Headquarters in the front lawns of Rail Nilayam this morning. SCR accords a high priority to cleanliness and that  the Railway premises should always be kept tidy for providing  a pleasant travel  experience to passengers, he said.  Shri Srivastava directed that the cleanliness drive shall not be limited to only for a certain duration and that it should be continued as a sustained campaign. on this occasion,  the General Manager initiated a signature campaign pledging  commitment to cleanliness, in which thousands of employees took part.  

Later, the General Manager himself participated in the Shramdaanat Kacheguda and Secunderabad Railway stations and at Chilakalguda Railway colony along with other staff.While Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, Hon’ble Member of Parliament / Secunderabad participated in the cleanliness campaign and Shramdaan at Secunderabad Railway station, Shri Nandi Yellaiah, Hon’ble Member of Parliament / Nagar Kurnool joined this programme at Kacheguda. The Hon’ble MPs complimented the efforts of SCR in keeping the stations clean and also called up on  the Public to actively associate themselves with the  ‘Clean India’ mission. Shri Srivastava administered cleanliness oath and  reviewed  the cleanliness activities at these Stations. He urged the staff to consistently maintain cleanliness at a high standard.  He also interacted with the passengers and sought their cooperation in keeping the stations and trains clean.

This programme has been conducted vigourously across all the 6 Divisions and Workshops o­n the Zone.  Divisional Railway Managers led the campaign and have participated in Shramdaanin their respective Divisions. Local public representatives including Hon’ble MPs,  Volunteers, Scouts & Guides, NGOs and school children also earnestly participated in this special cleanliness campaign and Shramdaan activities conducted at around 680 Railway stations and  other Railway units on SCR. 

Shri P.K.Srivastava, General Manager monitored the progress of this campaign on the Zone from the Headquarters through the live data feed from CCTV surveillance cameras at major stations. All these focussed collective efforts by SCR aimed at bringing in a visible improvement in cleanline
