NORTHERN RAILWAY GEARS UP TO MEET THE POOJA/WINTER/
CHRISTMAS RUSH


NEW DELHI                                                   

To cater to the growing volume of passengers during the ensuing festival/winter season, Northern Railway has rolled out its action plan to ensure quality services to rail passengers. All the department of Northern Railway have been instructed to ensure passenger convenience and safe running of trains during the ensuing Pooja/Winter/Christmas Rush. The thrust of the plan is to ensure smooth functioning and hassle-free purchase of rail tickets while stepping up vigilance to curb malpractices in all mass contact areas. The following are some of the facilitative arrangements in the core areas of advance reservation and availability of passenger amenities at stations and in trains during the period:-

The Railway will post staff near windows outside reservation counters at all locations during the period o­n all days including Sundays and Holidays to counter-sign requisition forms after ensuring complete filling of the form, especially the address before it is submitted to the reservation clerk.

The staff deputed for this purpose shall report to the reservation offices at 7.30 a.m. after which they should be posted at their respective nominated positions where they will remain up to 11.30 a.m. o­n all days including Sundays and Holidays

Providing additional counters at locations where it is necessary and ensuring availability of reservation requisition forms.

Forming of Special Squads of Commercial officers and ticket-checking staff to hold special surprise checks to curb the activities of anti-social elements and squads to conduct checks to detect various frauds like travelers o­n transferred tickets.

Northern Railway has planned to run special train & attach extra coach during rush period.Frequent announcements with regard to special trains and augmentation of trains and ensuring updation of the passenger reservation system with regard to special services provided so that rail passengers derive utmost benefit.

Display of timings of special trains including their stoppages at various stations and extra coaches attached to different trains from time to time.

.Deployment of adequate staff to ensure proper up-keep of waiting hall/ rooms and cleanliness at stations  Providing illuminated signage’s as necessary.
Ensuring adequate water arrangements and other passengers amenities at all stations
Sufficient numbers of staff have been deployed to check the correctness of the details of the passengers given in the reservation forms.The details will be checked with the telephone/mobile numbers as mentioned in the reservation form for purchasing reservation ticket.In case the details of the passengers as given in the reservation form found incorrect during the course of checking the ticket will be treated as invalid.

11.Vigilance department of Northern Railway has chalked out an action plan to check the activities of touts, unauthorized travel agents & other elements involved in such antisocial activities. The action plan includes the checks o­n touts, Unauthorised Travel Agents, Rail Travel Service Agents, JTBS, train checks, Ticket o­n Transfer (TOT), Fake/forged tickets, Blank Paper Ticket (BPT), Empty Foil ticket (EFT), PCT, Circular Tout Ticket (CTT), Pass/Privilege Ticket Order(PTO), Resale/Reuse of unsold ticket, Misuse of various quotas, attachment/firing in Public Reservation System (PRS) of special trains and coaches.

12.For the convenience of senior citizens, adequate number of wheel chairs in workable condition have been made available.

13.Drives are being launched to avoid complaints regarding overcharging by coolies.
