Large quantity of explosives seized in Lower Haflong Station linked to Al-Qaeda


Lower Haflong (LFG): A large quantity of explosives was also seized from a train at Lower Haflong Railway station in Dima Hasao district on a day Centre sounded alert on Al-Qaeda video threatening to carry out campaign in India

Government Railway Police (GRP) sources said the explosives, stashed in two bags, were seized from a compartment of Silchar—bound Cachar Express coming from Lumding during a routine security check by GRP personnel at the station.

The explosives seized included 292 pieces of gelatine sticks, 600 pieces of detonators in six packets with 100 in each and three coils of fuse wire of three feet each, he said.

A huge quantity of explosives were also seized from three different places in Assam, including capital Guwahati, on Thursday, even as the Centre sounded a country—wide alert after an Al—Qaeda video surfaced in which the terror outfit threatened to carry out its campaign in India.

Police said a bag was noticed by a youth at Machkhowa Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) bus stand here and he informed the authorities about it.

Police rushed to the spot, and with the help of CRPF seized 99 pieces of gelatine sticks, 100 detonators and a few other objects from the 10 kg bag.

Seven persons who were moving about suspiciously near the spot have been detained for interrogation, the police said.

In another incident, a powerful improvised explosive devise (IED) tied with a rope, with wires sticking out of it, was seized from a house in Bamunighat area on the outskirts of Sonapur city where an Air Force camp is located, the police said, adding that the bomb weighed about 1.5 kg.
