HC asks Maharashtra to decide on Helipads in Railway Stations by Nov-5

Mumbai:The HC on Monday directed the state to take an “appropriate” decision by November-5 on setting up helipads near railway stations to take accident victims to hospitals.

A division bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Girish Kulkarni questioned what the state had done in response to CR’s request for setting up 14 helipads on open spaces available near railways tracks, in addition to the existing 12. The HC noted that its July 2 order had sought the state’s response.

The court was hearing a suo motu PIL, which took note of commuters losing limbs after falling into gaps between trains and platforms. The HC had earlier set a deadline of May 31, 2015, for the CR and WR to raise platform heights. The judges have directed that contracts be finalized by September 30 and compliance reports filed before next hearing on October 10.
