ER’S RECORD HIGH IN FREIGHT LOADING & EARNING

Kolkata, September 5, 2014:

Eastern Railway has achieved a record originating freight loading of 5.101 Million Tonnes during August, 2014, as against 4.678 Million Tonnes during August, 2013 and thus registered an improvement of 9.04 % over last years performance. The freight earning of Eastern Railway in August, 2014 also increased to Rs. 415.96 Croreswhich is 30.67 % higher than that ofRs. 318.34 Crores earned in August, 2013.

The cumulative total originating freight loading of Eastern Railway for the period April to August, 2014 has increased to 26.183 Million Tonnes surpassing the target of 26.140 Million Tonnes, as against the originating freight loading of 23.909 Million Tonnes during the corresponding period of previous year and thus achieved an increase of 9.51 % in comparison to the last year’s performance. Coal loading alone stood as high as 17.606 Million Tonnes during April to August, 2014 which is11.16 % higher than that of 15.839 Million Tonnes during April to August, 2013.

The total earning from freight traffic also increased to Rs.2052.25 Crores for April to August, 2014 as against Rs. 1642.26 Crores earned during the corresponding period of last year. This is 24.96 % higher in comparison to last year’s performance. The share of earning from coal freight alone stood at Rs. 1411.46 Crores till August, 2014 which is 36.01 % higher in respect of coal earning during the corresponding period of last year.

This quantum jump in both freight loading and earning in the current year is due to loading of Coal rakes for long destinations.
