Trip-based Metro pass for daily commuters offers big discounts
MUMBAI: Mumbai Metro One Private Ltd (MMOPL) has introduced a trip-based pass for daily commuters that will make travel cheaper for those travelling in the maximum fare slab on the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor.
The pass system, which will be introduced from August 1, will be for 45 and 60 trips with validity period of 30 days. To avail benefit of this trip-based fare structure, one has to procure a pass latest by August 31 and use it till September 30.
The trip-based fare system will be continued after September but the fares may vary. In trip-based system, the fare will be deducted per journey. MMOPL said the existing smart card can be converted to the trip-based passes. An MMOPL spokesperson said, "The 45-trip pass will cost Rs 600, while the 60-trip pack will available for Rs 800. The cost per trip between Versova and Ghatkopar will be Rs 13.33 as against the fare of Rs 15 and Rs 20 by smart card and token system, respectively."
The discount benefit in the trip-based pass system will be extended to those who fall in the maximum fare slab fixed for token and smart card system. For those who fall in the minimum fare slab, the deduction will be equivalent to those applicable in the token or smart card system.
MMOPL has notified a minimum fare of Rs 10 and a maximum fare of Rs 40 but it is yet to be implemented. In the interim, it has come out with promotional fare for the token user at Rs 10 and Rs 20, respectively. For smart card holders, the lowest fare is Rs 10 and maximum is Rs 15.
The spokesperson said, "The trip-based system would significantly reduce the expenditure of daily Metro commuters. "While our smart cards offer significant discount on existingtravel cost, the trip-based passes would further increase the discount," he added.
