Top companies respond to RFP for Lucknow Metro project civil works

Lucknow (LKO): The metro rail project of Lucknow is gathering steam every day to begin construction by September 2014 as scheduled. Apart from selection of Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation’s (LMRC) new MD, the project has also bagged expression of interest from top companies for constructing its 8km priority section.

About eight reputed companies including MNCs have participated in the bid for civil construction work of the priority section from Transport Nagar to Charbagh railway station. The names include Soma and IL&FS, Larsen and Toubro, Afcons, Gammon India, and Simplex Infrastructures.

The tender was floated on June 20 and the deadline for receiving tenders was postponed by two weeks from July 31 to August 14 after an overwhelming response and queries from the construction companies. Officials said the company will be finalized within a week as the construction has to begin by September. The shortlisted companies who fit the technical requirements will be assessed on the basis of financial bids and the lowest bidder will bag the project.

Highlighted as the development model of Samajwadi Party, the metro project will be taken up in two phases- North South (N-S) Corridor from Amausi airport to Munshipulia (about 23 km) and East West (E-W) Corridor from Charbagh railway station to Vasantkunj in the second phase.

LMRC’s former MD, housing secretary, Rajiv Agarwal was removed from the post to bring a technocrat with experience in railway projects.
