Railways plan to develop Subedarganj Railway Station into a full-fledged Railway Terminus for Allahabad City
Allahabad (ALD): Manoj Sinha, who was on his first visit to the city after assuming charge barely a few months ago, conducted inspection of the Allahabad Junction and met senior railway officials during his brief tour and disclosed that a number of smaller stations here like Chheoki, Phaphamau and Prayag Ghat would be developed on a priority basis to avoid congestion during the 2019 Ardh Kumbh.
The Minister of State for Railways also said that a plan was afoot to develop the Subedarganj station, situated close to the North Central Railway headquarters in Allahabad, as a full-fledged terminal for which a budget of Rs 26 crore has been sanctioned.
Sinha also said that doubling of tracks and electrification on the Allahabad-Chapra route would be completed expeditiously.
Replying to a query, he said the Allahabad-Mughalsarai route had one of the highest traffic densities across the country and hence it was not possible to ply additional trains there though efforts were being made to improve amenities for passengers.
Sinha, who is a BJP MP from Ghazipur, also addressed a meeting of party workers later where local Lok Sabha member Shyama Charan Gupta raised the demand that the Duronto trains connecting the city to Mumbai and Delhi be run on a daily basis.
The Minister said that the demand ‘would be looked into’.
