Madurai-Kanyakumari double track report submitted.

Feasibility study on laying double railway track between Madurai and Kanyakumari had been completed and the report was submitted to the Union Railway Ministry, Rakesh Misra, General Manager, Southern Railway, has said.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting the ongoing development works at Nagercoil Railway Junction on Tuesday along with Pon. Radhakrishnan, Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries, Mr. Rakesh Misra said that the feasibility study on laying double railway track between Madurai and Kanyakumari had been completed and the report submitted to the Railway Ministry. Any further decision on this proposal would be taken only by the Railway Ministry.

He said that the ongoing development works at Nagercoil Railway Junction would be completed as per schedule.

Mr. Radhakrishnan said he had detailed discussion with Mr. Misra on expediting the ongoing railway projects in Tamil Nadu and also on executing the works announced earlier.

“More importantly, we discussed about upgrading Royapuram station into a new terminus, laying double railway track between Madurai and Kanyakumari and introducing more facilities at Kanyakumari,” Mr. Radhakrishnan said.

Residents of Oottuvaazhmadam and Aadhalvilai submitted petition to the Minister and to Mr. Misra seeking railway subway near their hamlets.

Mr. Misra ruled out the possibility of setting up railway station at Parvathipuram.
