Land acquisition: Railways, district administration reach agreement
The district administration has agreed ‘in-principle’ to hand over a stretch of land near the District Police Office on State Bank of India Road. This would be used to expand the access road to the second entrance of the Coimbatore Railway Junction and augment the parking capacity also.
Salem Divisional Railway Manager Subhranshu, who inspected the site here on Saturday, said, “We have reached a tentative agreement with the district administration. The details are yet to be worked out. The move will greatly benefit the passengers in this region.”
The objective would be to create a two-lane access road to the new subway, which was constructed at a great cost and was not being utilised to its optimum capacity now. Once the land came under the possession of railways, the works would commence at the earliest.
The Divisional Railway Manager inspected the areas around the Coimbatore Railway Junction along with engineers and railway officials. Later in the day, Mr. Subhranshu also took part in the Founder’s Day celebrations of the Signal and Telecommunication Training Centre at Podanur.
It trained new employees of the South-Western Railway and the Southern Railway.
S. Manohar, Chief Signal and Telecommunication Engineer, Southern Railway, and Navita Singh, Chief Workshop Manager, Signal and Telecommunication Workshop, took part.
