Immediate focus is on cleanliness: ECoR GM

The immediate focus of the East Coast Railway is on “cleanliness” on railway premises and in trains and improving catering in trains. Special measures are being taken to achieve these twin objectives, ECoR General Manager Rajiv Vishnoi has said.

Mr. Vishnoi was here to inaugurate an exhibition of photographs depicting old locomotives, coaches, and railway station to showcase the 161-year-old journey of the Indian Railways.

Interacting with the media present at the exhibition, Mr. Vishnoi said that two big laundries would be set up by the Railways in Visakhapatnam and Bhubaneswar in view of the complaints of unclean bed linen being supplied by the private contract supplier.

“We have now decided to take up running of the laundries on our own.”

“In view of complaints about the poor quality of food being supplied by the IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation), we have decided to cancel the contract and give new contracts for supply of food,” he said.

Special drives are being conducted at major stations to improve cleanliness on platforms and in trains.
