ER commissions new Signalling System for enhanced Safety, Efficiency and Punctuality

Barddhaman Jn (BWN): The Eastern Railway has successfully commissioned a modern Route Relay Interlocking (RRI) system at Barddhaman (in West Bengal), replacing the 50-year-old Liver Frame signalling system.


Work for commissioning the RRI started on August 14 and was completed by August 17.

According to a release issued by the Eastern Railway, the commissioning of the RRI will lead to a considerable improvement in the safety and efficiency of train operations as well as punctuality of train services of Eastern Railway as a whole.

Train movements along the Howrah-Barddhaman Main and Chord lines and Sahibganj loop sections will also be benefitted.

The Barrdhaman RRI – signalling network, according to the Railways, has provision for 555 routes, 164 point machines, 210 track circuits, 63 main and another 63 shunt signals and 37 calling-on signals.
