4.58 Lakh Hectares of Land at Railways’ disposal: Railway Minister
New Delhi: Indian Railways have 4.58 lakh hectares of land at its disposal out of which 4.11 lakh hectares are utilised for Railway’s operations. Minister of Railways, D.V.Sadananda Gowda said this in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha. He said, 0.47 lakh hectares vacant land will be used for further expansion of the Railways.
He added that there is no change in land use policy. However, for executing major projects like new lines and for doubling and gauge conversion and for setting up railway production units etc. land is acquired through State governments as per provisions of prevalent Acts governing land acquisition.
