Tiruchirappalli GRP Cops get thorough Refresher Course and Training on handling Weapons

84 Special Sub-Inspectors attend the refresher course

Tiruchirappalli (TPJ): Providing armed escort on board trains, field-level Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel were put through a refresher course on the ways to handle weapons and keep them secure.

The personnel were given training in handling semi-automatic INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) assault rifle and the 9 mm pistol. Organised by the Railway Police authorities, the two-day course was meant exclusively for the Special Sub Inspectors (SSIs) serving in different railway police stations falling within the vast jurisdiction of GRP, Tiruchi District.

The 84 participants were apprised of stripping the weapons and assembling them swiftly and the method of keeping them safe and secure in their possession.

The programme that commenced on Tuesday was meant for SSIs as they were deployed on board trains to provide armed escort, E.T. Samson, Superintendent of Police, GRP, Tiruchi, said.

A similar refresher course would soon be held for the constables. Probing property offence and train run over cases, a separate refresher course on investigation will soon be organised for the field-level GRP officers.
