Sparks, smoke set off panic in Sealdah Express

Sparks, smoke set off panic in Sealdah Express

BAREILLY: The Sealdah Express running between Jammu Tawi and Howrah was the site of much panic after passengers tried to pull the alarm chain on seeing sparks flying from the wheel. Passengers tried to stop the train between Bhitaura and Parsakhera station after spotting the sparks. Smoke came billowing out of some compartments, sending passengers into a tizzy. Railway staff arrived in time and set the fault right on Wednesday night. After a thorough check by technical staff, the train was allowed to proceed on its onward journey. The delay lasted about15 minutes. Mayank Kumar, a passenger, told TOI, "The train stopped between Bhitora and Parsakhera stations after passengers noticed sparks. The alertness of passengers and timely action by railway staff prevented an untoward happening." Station master of Bareilly station, RB Saxena, however, said, "Some of the passengers allegedly pulled the alarm chain, leading to jamming of the brake shoe and the resultant sparks and smoke from the wheels on several bogies. The train was thoroughly checked by technical staff and allowed to head out on its onward journey."
