SCR set priorities in undertaking development works

Secunderabad (SC): The South Central Railway (SCR) set priorities in undertaking railway developmental works during the current financial year. The funds allotted to SCR for railway developmental works in the recent Rail Budget include Rs.93 crore for passenger amenities, traffic facilities (Rs.47 crore), level crossing gates (Rs.64 crore); road over bridges and road under bridges (Rs.147 crore), track renewals (Rs.381 crore), bridges (Rs.17 crore) and staff amenities (Rs 47 crore).

SCR General Manager PK Srivastava, who held a review meeting with all the principal heads of the departments at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad on Tuesday on the progress of the ongoing works across various categories like providing improved facilities to passengers, track renewals, construction of road over bridges, road under bridges and level crossings, said that no stone should be left unturned to ensure that the allocated funds were utilised fully with focus on completing the important and last-mile works,

He emphasised that in view of the resource constraints, proper prioritisation is to be done after a careful review of the sanctioned works. To enable optimal utilisation of the resources, works which have not taken off so far or no longer required at present should be dropped, he said. He said that works which are in advanced stage of progress and which provide immediate benefit to the passengers should be undertaken on priority for their early completion. Top priority would be accorded to launch works related to provision of additional facilities to handle the huge rush of passengers expected at the railway stations concerned in connection with the Godavari Pushkarams to be celebrated next year, he added.

In addition, passenger amenity works for providing all the essential facilities at stations; works to take care of the needs of the people with special abilities (physically challenged); and lifts and escalators would also get due importance in the current fiscal, the General Manager added. Additional General Manager Sunil Kumar Agarwal and Divisional Railway Managers from all the six divisions, Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntakal, Guntur and Nanded participated in the high-level meeting.
