RCF, Kapurthala gets Greentech Management Award

Strengthening its commitment towards sustainable development in the field of environment conservation, RCF has been awarded Greentech Enviroment Management Award - 2013 in the engineering sector for excellent management of environment during 2013-14. This award was presented by Sh. K. Sharan, President of Greentech Foundation, New Delhi & Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee, Retd. IAS and DG & CEO, Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Govt. of India at 14th Annual Greentech Environment and CSR Conference held at Chandigarh. This award was received by Sh. G.C.Agrawal, Chief Mechanical Engineer and Sh. B.Munduia, Chief Quality Manager of RCF, Kapurthala.

RCF is making all endeavors for maintaining clean & environment friendly technology, machinery and plants in RCF. Mass tree plantation, rain water harvesting, paperless working, automatic switching for lighting system, solar water heaters & zero discharge unit are the major achievements in environment management system in RCF.

With the continued mass tree plantation programmes in residential and workshop areas, RCFhas now attained a green cover of more than 50%. Every year thousand of saplings are planted making the campus lush green. For proper utilization of rain water, 75 rain water harvesting bore wells are functioning in the campus area. Recycling of waste water to residential area is done and the capacity of sewerage treatment plant has been increased from 7000 Kilolitre per day to 10,500 Kilolitre per day. RCF Hospital, Rest Houses, Training Centre & RPF Barrack are endowed with Solar water heating system . Besides, solar powered lights are provided in the workshop and in the lake complex. To optimize functioning of street lighting , Astro timers are provided. Incandescent bulbs have been replaced by10,000 CFLs of 14 & 20 Watts.
To keep railway tracks clean RCF has developed bio-toilets which are being fitted in conventional and LHB coaches. Use of hardwood has been eliminated in coaches. CNC machines of modern technology are working in RCF workshop which are exemplary in making optimum use of clean and environment friendly technology.

It is worth mentioning that in the past also RCF has been awarded several awards on its endeavors on Energy Conservation.
