Rail fracture near Lonavala delays trains from Pune

Lonavala (LNL): A rail fracture near Lonavla station disrupted the schedule of long-distance trains arriving in Mumbai from Pune during the morning peak hours on Monday. The trains affected were Sinhagad Express and Deccan Queen, both of which carry hundreds of office-goers who travel from Pune to Mumbai daily.

“Due to the rail fracture at 7.20am, Sinhagad Express was delayed by one hour and 10 minutes, while the Deccan Queen reached Mumbai 35 minutes late,” said Central Railway chief spokesperson Narendra Patil. He added the fracture took place between Malvali and Lonavla stations, 132.7km from Mumbai.

The cause of the fracture is yet to be ascertained and an inquiry has been ordered. The incident did not have any impact on the CR suburban services.

“Even all the other mail and express trains ran on time,” an official said.
