NORTHERN RAILWAY HONORS 12 EMPLOYEES THROUGH SAFETY & EXCELLENCE AWARDS
In keeping with the practice of honoring employees, whose alertness and prompt action have resulted in averting a possible accident, through Safety Awards and as recognition of meritorious services, Northern Railway honored the services of twelve of its employees through Safety and Excellence Awards at a ceremony held at Northern Railway Headquarters Office, Baroda House, New Delhi yesterday (30.06.2014). The Awards were presented by Shri Anup Sahu, Addl. General Manager, Northern Railway. Also present on this occasion were Sh. Naveen Kumar Shukla, Chief Safety Officer, Northern Railway and the Principal Heads of all departments of Northern Railway.
The twelve employees who were felicitated by Addl. General Manager for their services are: Sh. Karnal Singh, Gateman/Budhlada of Delhi Division, Sh. Gurmail Singh, Loco Pilot of Ambala Division, Sh Chandra Veer Singh ,Station Master /Himmatana and Sh. Satyendra Kumar Kushwaha, Goods- Guard/Dhuri of Ambala Division, Sh. Parmod Kumar Helper, Signal/Goraya of Firozpur Division, Sh. Giri Raj, Loco Pilot/Amritsar of Firozpur Division, Sh. Ajay Pal, Token Porter/Parsa Khera of Moradabad Division, Sh. Bal Singh, Loco Pilot/Haridwar of Moradabad Division, Shri Ravinder Lakra, Inspector/RPF of Delhi Division, Shri V.K.Singh, Chief Travelling Ticket Examiner, Varanasi, Lucknow Division, Shri Balveer Rana Dy. Chief Travelling Ticket Examiner, Lucknow Division and Smt. Sushma Sharma, Head Ticket Inspector Varanasi, Lucknow Division.
Diligent and conscientious working enabled Sh. Karnal Singh, Gateman/Budhlada of Delhi Division, while performing duty on 23.05.2014 observe hot axle in a wagon on a goods train on a train passing the level-crossing gate No. 204-C. He immediately conveyed the information to Loco Pilot and Guard of the train and the wagon was immediately detached from the train. Going beyond his brief of duties, Sh. Ajay Pal, Token Porter/Parsa Khera of Moradabad Division on duty on 23.05.2014, noticed smoke coming out under gear of a goods train. He immediately informed to the duty Station Master and stopped the train at the station. The timely action of the above staff has enabled the railway to avert a possible accident.
Utmost vigilance and conscientious working was displayed by Sh. Gurmail Singh, Loco Pilot Ambala Division while working train Kurali-Morinda passenger on 29.05.2014 on the train passing the advance starter at Kurali station, he observed that manned Gate No. C-30 was in open condition. He stopped the train by applying emergency brake. The timely action of the above named employee has thus averted a possible accident. Similar dedicated working enabled Sh. Giri Raj, Loco Pilot/Amritsar of Ferozpur division while working passenger train 74687 between Bhagtanwala-Amritsar on 29.05.2014 observe that manned special gate-4 was in open condition. He stopped the train by applying the emergency brake before gate. Through their diligent working, the above named staff were above to avert possible mishaps.
Keen attention to detail, presence of mind and intense concentration to duties enabledSh. Parmod Kumar Helper, Signal/Goraya of Firozpur Divisionworking under Section Engineer/Signal/Ludhiana on 18.05.2014 observe track circuit failure at the station. He informed the same to ASM Goraya that track circuit 29T failed at Goraya at 05:05 hrs. ASM immediately moved to site and checked the voltage and found 6.48 volt which was an open circuit voltage. After checking the track towards relay end side he found positive rail of 29T broken. Immediate remedial action was taken. The timely action of the above named employee has thus averted a possible accident.
Similarly, alertness in working enabled Sh. Bal Singh, Loco Pilot/Haridwar of Moradabad division while working on train No. 14609 between Rishikesh-Haridwaron 26.05.2014 observe big branches of a tree lying on the track on the section ahead. He immediately applied emergency brake and stopped the train well ahead of the obstruction. Immediately the track was cleared and train service restored. Through his alertness and vigilance, a possible mishap could be averted.
Utmost vigilance and presence of mind Sh Chandra Veer Singh, Station Master, Himmatana notice high speed of a passing train possibly through over-shooting of signal. The Station Master through prompt communication of the message to the Loco Pilot and Guard of the running train. Shri Satyendra Kumar Kushwaha, Goods Guard who responded immediately applied the air pressure from his brake-van and immediately informed to Loco-Pilot on CUG phone, and the train was halted forthwith. Through his alertness and prompt communication of the information, a possible mishap could be averted.
Going beyond his brief of duties, conscientious working enabled Shri Ravinder Lakra, Inspector/RPF/Delhi of Delhi division while on duty on 21.05.2014, intercept the Satyagraha Express on source information from NGO Bachpan Bachao Andalon that suspected human trafficking juveniles were traveling. The general coach of the train was intercepted and 63 children rescued from trafficking. Through his dauntless efforts, the RPF Inspector had enabled saving of the innocent children.
Zeroing in on ticket-less travel and wrongful activity, Ticket Checking Examiners were able to save noteworthy amounts to be credited rightfully to the Railway Exchequer. Awards for Outstanding and meritorious working were given to Shri V.K.Singh, Chief Travelling Ticket Examiner, Varanasi, Lucknow Division, Shri Balveer Rana Dy. Chief Travelling Ticket Examiner, Lucknow Division and Smt. Sushma Sharma, Head Ticket Inspector Varanasi, Lucknow Division respectively.Through Single-mindedness in carrying out inspections and dedicated working Smt. Sushma Sharma seized a record 1021 penalty cases. Shri V.K.Singh through significant checks in high demand trains enabled the Railway realized a noteworthy revenue through 962 penalty cases. Similarly, focused working enabled Shri Balveer Rana register 763 penalty cases. The checks on trains were conducted by the aforesaid Ticket examiners/Inspectors in the single month of May 2014.
The meritorious contributions of all the above named staff were highly appreciated by the General Manager.
